20-second false-start challenge

Fakeout reaction and reflex challenge

Fakeout turns the usual wait-for-GO reaction test into a 20-second challenge. You choose a GO colour, but the game can also show a bait colour. React to the real cue, ignore the fake one, and avoid responding early.

False starts add a 1000 ms penalty, so guessing aggressively can damage the final result even if some individual reactions are fast. The goal is to stay ready without firing on the wrong signal.

How to play Fakeout

  1. Choose your GO colour.
  2. Start the 20-second round.
  3. Wait through the red state.
  4. React only to the real GO signal.
  5. Ignore the fake colour and avoid early clicks.

Yellow GO colour?

If yellow is selected as your real GO colour, the game automatically changes the fake signal so the two cues remain visually different.

A reaction test where patience matters

Fakeout is useful when you want something less predictable than repeating a single colour-change test. It rewards quick reactions, but it also punishes premature responses. At the end, the summary shows your average timing, best and worst reactions, number of successful reactions and any false starts.

For a clean single response without bait signals, switch to the Classic Reaction Time Test. For fast target clicking, try Aim Reaction.

Fakeout FAQ

How long does a Fakeout round last?

Each round lasts 20 seconds.

What happens if I click too early?

An early response counts as a false start and adds a 1000 ms penalty.

Can I choose the GO colour?

Yes. You can choose green, blue, yellow or purple. The waiting state remains red.

What if my GO colour would match the fake colour?

The game automatically switches the fake cue to a different colour so the real and fake signals stay distinct.
